IMMUTABLE FRAGRANCE
My dear readers,
When I am asked to quote a strong memory left by my mother, I like to answer: "her perfume".
Some women wear the same fragrance throughout their lives. Fragrances mark time and memories. For years, my mother has worn Guerlain's Shalimar, and when I feel this fragrance, my childhood memories come to life.
I like to ask for a sample of Shalimar when I go to a perfume shop, to "remember"! Feeling that smell is enough to make me happy and comfort me.
MYTHIC FRAGRANCE
In 1925, Jacques Guerlain created Shalimar. The fragrance was inspired by a legendary love story, the one of Mumtaz and Emperor Shah Jaha.
It was created in tribute to the young Indian princess for whom her husband had built the most emblematic mausoleum, the Taj Mahal! The perfumer imagined a feminine and very sensual perfume, in the name of Shalimar, literally meaning "abode of love" in Sanskrit.
I find this oriental perfume very captivating. Its sweet and balsamic notes make it an extraordinary enveloping fragrance.
Jean-Claude Ellena, a French perfumer, said: "The strength of perfume is to make the absent person present". Shalimar alone contains all my childhood and a multitude of happy memories!
See you soon!
