Fashion and dandyism

Dear readers,

The dandy movement is often associated with two men since its creation in the 19th century. Two great names from the world of arts have developed this style and this state of mind which stills exists today, even if it is not as much recognized as it used to be.

However, as in every period of history, canons of beauty shift at an uncontrollable shift, just as the world we live in.

Thus, the dandy is not the same today as he was in the last century. One can observe the outfits and style decade after decade to realize how fast fashion and haute couture change.

On the one hand, we have the possibility to endlessly discover new outfits, accessories and styles which allow us to wear something different every day. On the other hand, there is a vulgarization of fashion that I do not necessarily admire, certainly because of my natural modesty.

The dandy

Fashion is also about breaking codes. This is why I would like to speak about a woman that imposed a change in habits, which revolutionized a whole society.

I am speaking of Katharine Hepburn, an American actress who became a legend in Hollywood. She was against every norms and codes. Her strong personality always prevailed over the rules she was constantly faced with.

This great independent and egocentric lady, who was awarded 4 Oscars of the best actress (a record) often qualified herself as a “bad girl”. She always wore perfect, sometimes manly but always refined outfits. A real dandy…

She gave up on her studies very early and gave herself powers to realize her ambitions in order to become the legend she is today. Even if something was at the limit of the moral, she would do it.

Dear readers, this lady who passed away at the age of 96 years old, often said: “I never forget that existing is a great opportunity”.

See you soon!
